FIRST-TIME mum Kimberley Hill thought she was going to have a Christmas Day baby.
But Jake Thomas Ball delayed his appearance until New Year's Day.
The 28-year-old and partner Ian Ball, a 34-year-old welder, had gone to the hospital on Christmas Eve thinking her waters had broken, but it turned out to be a false alarm.
Jake, above, had been due to arrive on December 21.
Kimberley, of Festival Close, Etruria, said: "I was dreading him being a Christmas baby. Everyone kept asking if anything was happening during Christmas dinner!"
Kimberley first went to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire's delivery suite on December 21. But after the baby got into a difficult position, Kimberley was eventually given a caesarean section eleven days later.
Jake was born at 6.02am on Saturday, weighing 7lb 10oz.
Kimberley, who works for Elmfield Training, in Stoke, said: "I'm absolutely over the moon. I'm really pleased about his birth date too. I'll be able to get his birthday presents in the Boxing Day sales!" Kimberley added: "Can you imagine what a 21st he'll have, with a birthday on New Year's Day?"
