A NOTTS school is to be rebranded as an academy under a college partnership.
Dayncourt School, in Radcliffe-on-Trent, is drawing up plans to become an academy after linking up with South Nottingham College (SNC).
The new academy is set to come into operation on September 1.
Governors at Dayncourt are currently planning sweeping changes to the school's identity, including a new name, uniform, curriculum and a new academy building.
Tim Mitchell, head teacher at Dayncourt School, said: "This community has suffered in the recent past with a lack of certainty over the future of the school.
"We have come through that now through the partnership with SNC and we are now planning to provide the very best academic study alongside the very best vocational courses.
"With the support of the college we are going to rebuild our school physically.
"I think it is a fantastic opportunity for the local community and we are really excited about the future."
The school's future had been in doubt over the last few years after concerns over rising debts and falling pupil numbers led to fears it would have to close.
The new partnership came into force this month.
It followed months of talks after Notts County Council gave the go ahead for the link-up in July last year.
The school is planning to host public meetings in the coming months in order to discuss the academy plans with parents and the community.
The partnership aims to help Dayncourt clear its debts and secure its future.
The school and college have already started sharing services, including finance, marketing and ICT.
It is proposed that the curriculum will be revamped to accommodate more vocational courses alongside traditional academic subjects.
Malcolm Cowgill, principal at South Nottingham College, said: "We are pleased that the school has been granted permission to go down the academy route. It is important for the learners, future learners and parents in Radcliffe and Cotgrave to know the school is in safe hands and its future is secure."
