Officer rules out link between reports of attempted abductions

A POLICE officer investigating reports of three attempted abductions has defended the force's inquiry.

Speaking at a meeting of Endon Parish Council last night, PCSO John Morton said each incident had crucial differences.

The first report was at Endon on February 17.

The two subsequent incidents are said to have taken place in the Endon and Stockton Brook area on April 1 and April 3.

PCSO Morton said: "There's been three incidents. All are different sorts, involving different aged children, different cars and different people.

"At the moment we are not linking them together.

"In each case, the children have responded correctly, they have run away.

"One of the problems has been how do you broadcast these incidents. You can release panic as well as reassure people.

"You get every silver car that is seen in the area reported.

"We've had two reports of drivers speaking to children, both have been found to be perfectly innocent.

"We don't mind reports like that.

"We have also spoken to the schools and done some work around stranger danger."

Parents complained police were slow in informing the public about the investigation into the attempted abductions, but police say inaccurate rumours on social networking sites have hampered investigations.

Anyone with information is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 0300 123 4455.
