A police officer was guilty by a disciplinary committee of shooting a woman outside a Kempton Park police station.
|||A police officer accused of shooting dead a woman outside a police station in Kempton Park has been fired following a disciplinary hearing, police said on Tuesday.
Sergeant Manape Phineas Kgoale, 38, was found guilty by the disciplinary committee on August 31, said Lt-Col Tshisikhawe Ndou.
He said the matter was postponed until Monday for Kgoale to explain his alleged actions, but that he did not speak during the hearing.
“Maybe his reasons will come out in the criminal case,” Ndou said.
He said the committee's findings would not influence the criminal case.
Kgoale allegedly shot dead 45-year-old Jeanette Odendaal after she crashed into a stationary police car outside the Kempton Park station on April 26.
In an affidavit, Kgoale said he thought Odendaal was a hijacker or a car thief.
He will appear in the Alberton Magistrate's Court on the October 12. - Sapa
