JSE stocks rise 2%

South African blue-chip stocks rose 2 percent, buoyed by a global equities rebound on hopes of aggressive policy action in Europe to fight the euro zone crisis.

South African blue-chip stocks rose 2 percent on Thursday, buoyed by a global equities rebound on hopes of aggressive policy action in Europe to fight the euro zone crisis.

Shares of gold miner Harmony Gold jumped more than 3 percent, helped by a recovery in the price of the precious metal, while paper maker Mondi Ltd also gained 3 percent.

The Top-40 index of blue chips was up 1.9 percent at 26,733.35 after earlier gaining more than 2 percent. The broad All-share index was up 1.6 percent. - Reuters
