Pentecostal Bishops, Catechists Retreat At Ibru Centre

THE College of Pentecostal Bishops of Nigeria and Overseas held their 2011 Statutory Conference of Bishops at the Ibru International Ecumenical Centre Agbarha-Otor, Delta State on September 1-3.

The theme was ?In His Presence?. It was presided by Archbishop Prof. S. G. A. Onibere, who is the President of the College. Others in attendance were the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Delta State, Archbishop God-dowell O. Avwomakpa, and Bishop Gimbright Adaigho. Over 20 bishops were in attendance.

Onibere admonished Nigerians to recognise and dwell in God?s presence. He called on politicians to invite His presence in their undertakings. According to him, if Nigerians do so, insecurity would not exist.

The conference featured prayers for President Jonathan for good governance and peace in the nation.

Meanwhile, Asaba Diocese also held a retreat at the centre, themed: Faithfulness in God?s Service (Matthew 25:21).

A senior priest, Ven. A. N. Asiekwu, spoke on the topic, ?Why are you in the ministry??

With convincing words, he sent catechists thinking, and on a journey to rediscovery.

Rev. Canon Godwin Isitheri, who also spoke, admonished participants: ?Dare to be faithful: it pays but it is not without pains. Serve, faithfully and the crown of life shall be yours?.

The Rector, Ibru Centre, Ven. Ernest Onuoha, spoke on the topic, ?The catechist, his ministry and vision?.

The retreat, a period of soul lifting and revival of visions, was organised by Rt. Rev. J. N. Mogekwu and co-ordinated by Rev. Canon Christian Okonkwor.
