Former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy is set to join Orlando Pirates this season.
|||Former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy has reportedly signed a two-year contract with Orlando Pirates.
The Buccaneers have yet to announce the deal, but have hinted at it on their facebook page with the status “in the 18 area..”, referring to the popular song McCarthy recorded with TKZee some years ago.
McCarthy returned to South Africa in the close season after West Ham paid him off to leave the club.
The former Ajax Amsterdam, Porto, Blackburn and West Ham striker returned to train with Ajax Cape Town at the start of the pre-season – where he was expected to sign – before Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs showed interest in doing a deal.
McCarthy has always said he’d love to return to Cape Town, but it seems Buccaneers made the better offer.
Pirates are expected to announce the signing at noon.
