Sao Paulo – Brazilian police say Roma striker Adriano had his driver's licence suspended after refusing to take a breathalyser test in Rio de Janeiro.

Authorities say Adriano told police officers he had been drinking but was not drunk. He was allowed by law to refuse the breathalyser test, but by doing so his licence was automatically suspended for five days and he will have to pay a fine of $574.

Police Major Marco Andrade dismissed local media reports that Adriano displayed signs of drunkenness when he was stopped early Wednesday.

Adriano, in Brazil to treat a shoulder injury, will go on trial because of his refusal to take the breathalyser test and can still be found guilty of drunk driving. – Sapa-AP
