A NOTTINGHAM dance group will perform in the live semi-final of a television contest tomorrow night.
QMX, based at the Quantum Matrix Academy of Excellence in St Ann's, are just one show away from the final of Sky1's Got To Dance – and a 250,000 prize.
The seven-piece have impressed judges with their mix of dance styles, including contemporary, salsa, lindy hop and street.
Joseph Hall, 33, the group's managing director and founder of the academy, said: "We're feeling good, this is a really good thing to be part of.
"I think choosing our music for the semi-finals has been the hardest part. We're trying to make sure we can use the best style of dance.
"It's been a long process. We've been rehearsing seven hours a day almost every day.
"It's tiring, sometimes it's quite hard to get up."
The group has nearly 50 members all together but a selection were chosen to enter the competition.
Mr Hall is no stranger to TV success after winning Strictly Dance Fever in 2005.
He then set up the dance academy and held open auditions for the troupe.
The group also appeared on Britain's Got Talent in 2008.
It is a family affair for Mr Hall, with his nephews Alaqyane Blair, 15, and Petiri Hall, 18, and niece, Lakila Henry, 17, part of the group.
Academy teachers Taiwo Bamiduro, 21, and Danielle Whelbourne, 24, who also teach with Joseph, and George Stromberg, 17, complete the group.
One of the aims is to provide opportunities for young people from underprivileged backgrounds to develop through dance.
Mr Hall added: "We've had some good comments from the judges but that's making us need to push up our game for the semi-final. We are feeling confident but you never know because it's down to the public vote.
"It's important that the public get behind us and I just hope that Nottingham will support us as we are its last hope in the competition."
Mr Hall said he had been pleased with the support from his hometown. The show is presented by Davina McCall and features judges Ashley Banjo, Diversity's lead choreographer, former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and Coyote Ugly star Adam Garcia.
Ashley told the group they had good technical skills and were "potentially very strong contenders," while Adam said their performance was the "fastest and cleanest dance we've seen."
Kimberley said QMX "demolished" the dance floor with a "perfect" routine.
If QMX, who are up against six other acts, secure enough votes they will make it through to the final on Sunday, February 27.
Got To Dance is on Sky1HD and Sky1 on Sunday at 6pm.
