The National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) of the South African Football Association (Safa) found Golden Arrows player Philani Shange guilty of using a banned substance (cannabis) on Monday.

Shange was charged for contravening the regulation in terms of the South African Institute of Drug Free Sport, South African football Association Anti-Doping Regulations, and Fifa Regulations relating to doping. The charges came after he tested positive on November 14 last year, during a fixture between Golden Arrows and Mpumalanga Black Aces.

In handing down judgment; the NDC took into consideration that Shange had pleaded guilty, that he has shown remorse and that he is a first time offender.

The NDC fined Shange R12 000 which is wholly suspended for 2 years, provided he is not found in similar transgression. He is also required to attend a drug abuse programme and submit a report to Safa on completion. – Sapa
