JCB dig in to help out Haiti with rebuilding after earthquake

MACHINES made by Staffordshire digger maker JCB are helping rebuild parts of Haiti devastated by last year's earthquake.

International charity Oxfam has bought two excavators and a wheeled loading shovel and donated them to not-for-profit organisation, Disaster Waste Recovery (DWR).

The excavators were made at JCB Heavy Products in Uttoxeter and the shovel is from JCB Earthmovers in Cheadle.

DWR will use the equipment to clear damaged houses and help recycle debris in one of the poorest areas of the Caribbean island's capital Port Au Prince.

JCB also provided seven days' on-site operator training in Haiti.

Immediately after the earthquake, in January 2010, JCB chairman Sir Anthony Bamford donated two diggers to help with the relief effort.

They are being used by Food for the Poor.
