“The charges for Mdluli have no relation with the Krejcir matter and will not be linked at any stage.”
|||The investigation of Crime Intelligence boss Richard Mdluli was not “in any way” linked to the case against fraud-accused Radovan Krejcir, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said on Friday.
“The charges for Mdluli have no relation with the Krejcir matter and will not be linked at any stage,” spokesman advocate Mthunzi Mhaga told Sapa.
“It can never be linked from a prosecution point of view or any other point of view.”
He was responding to media reports suggesting that Mdluli and his colleague Major-General Joey Mabasa were involved with Krejcir, who was arrested last week in connection with an alleged multi-million rand fraud scam.
Investigator Paul O' Sullivan had told journalists last week that he would go all out to ensure that Mdluli and Mabasa were put behind bars.
Mhaga would not say what O'Sullivan's role was in the Krejcir investigation or the Mdluli matter.
“I am not going to comment on O'Sullivan or what he has said.”
Hawks spokesman McIntosh Polela said he could not comment on either case and referred media to national police spokesman Vish Naidoo and Nonkululeko Mbatha, spokeswoman for National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele.
Both Naidoo and Mbatha were not immediately available to comment.
Krejcir's case was postponed to April 7 for bail application at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court.
The 42-year-old businessman was also being questioned over the death of underworld boss Cyril Beeka, who was shot dead in a drive-by shooting in Cape Town in March.
O'Sullivan landed himself in hot water this week after Krejcir's lawyer, Piet du Plessis accused him of threatening his life and that of his family.
The High Court in Johannesburg granted Du Plessis and interim order barring O'Sullivan from assaulting, harassing, threatening, intimidating and/or verbally abusing him, his family and colleagues.
He was also ordered not to “incite or instruct” others to do the same.
In court papers, Du Plessis said:”My submission is that Mr Paul O'Sullivan clearly by his own admission has access to gang members of the underworld and that he is now threatening to use those people behind the screens without exposing himself to do physical harm to myself, my family and my colleagues.”
In addition, Du Plessis opened a criminal case of intimidation against the investigator.
Meanwhile, Mdluli turned himself over to authorities on Thursday and appeared later at the Boksburg Magistrate's Court.
He and two others - court orderly Samuel Dlomo, 49, and Warrant Officer Nkosana Ximba, 38, were charged with intimidation, three counts of kidnapping, two counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and defeating and/or obstructing the course of justice.
The charges go back to an incident 12 years ago where his ex-lover's husband, Oupa Ramogibe, was killed.
Ramogibe apparently received death threats after marrying Mdluli's ex-lover and was allegedly told to leave her or he would be killed.
He had opened an attempted murder case before his death.
Mdluli who was the station commissioner at Vosloorus police station, in Boksburg, on the East Rand was accused of sabotaging the investigations.
The case was postponed to April 7 for further investigation.
The trio were remanded in custody and being kept at undisclosed locations over safety concerns.
