A MAN who survived seven heart attacks died from a blood clot after being bed bound for a week, an inquest heard.
Robert Jackson, aged 85, of First Avenue, Kidsgrove, was a retired munitions factory labourer. He had once weighed more than 20 stone but he changed his lifestyle after his first heart attack.
Speaking at the inquest his daughter Shelia Jackson said: "He stopped drinking and cut down on his food intake and lost about five stone.
"He had seven heart attacks and then a stroke in 2010.
"While in hospital he had a fall in February 2010."
He suffered a fracture to his wrist and a cut to his arm which developed an infection.
Doctors prescribed antibiotics and he was transferred to Bradwell Hospital to recover. He was there for three weeks before going home. In April he tested positive for C-difficile and was readmitted to hospital in June. He was kept in an isolation room on ward 81 but died five days later on June 19.
A post mortem showed a large blood clot in his leg had travelled to his lungs.
North Staffordshire Coroner Ian Smith said: "I suspect the C-difficile had made him dehydrated and may well have triggered the formation of the blood clot."
He recorded Mr Jackson died from a combination of natural disease, a fall and recognised complications of antibiotic therapy.
