Marvellous moffie maids meet Kung Fu Panda in “Maid in China”, the theme of this year’s Mother City Queer Project costume party.

This year marks the 18th MCQP, which will take place on December 17. Around 7 000 people are expected to attend. The venue and ticket prices are still to be announced.

The theme was announced at a launch party on Friday night at popular Green Point night spot Crew Bar. MCQP organiser Ian McMahon said the idea is to celebrate the Eastern cultures using Chinese symbols and the colours red and black.

“Each year we start from scratch with a new theme, which means a ton of time, energy and creativity is invested in making sure that you have the best night out,” he said.

Previous themes have included “Flower Power”, “Lights, Camera, Action” and “Matric Dance”.

“This year, think marvellous moffie maids meets Kung Fu Panda, think sultry sexy dragon girls versus plastic fantastic. I’m expecting a large numbers of ‘boy gayshas’ and girls in ‘ki-homos’,” he said. - Weekend Argus
