Leaders To Blame For Nation?s Stunted Growth, Development, Says Okogie

okogieTHE Catholic Archbishop of Lagos Archdiocese, Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie, has expressed dissatisfaction over stunted political and socio-economic growth in the country, blaming high handedness and selfishness among the country?s leaders.

Okogie, who spoke during the 25th anniversary of Christ the King Catholic Church (CKC), Ilasamaja, Mushin, Lagos, called on leaders to put the nation first and be ready to lay down their lives for its sake.

He said: ?Why is every Tom, Dick and Harry aiming to be a politician? Is it not to steal? This is the impression they have created.

?This is not the way forward. We can?t continue like this at 51. Government needs to trim its pockets. It has brought about underdevelopment of the country.?

The Parish Priest, Fr. Tylomun Kinga-Upaa, who expressed gratitude to God for having brought the parish so far, said that it takes God to get through all of life?s trying situations. According to him,  ?Dynamism of the society is our major challenge. So we have to reinvent our space according to the philosophy of our time.?

Speaking on achievements in community development, he said the parish has impacted many lives positively. ?We have done well in youth education and we look forward to seeing more improvement,? he said.
