Kaizer Chiefs and Ajax Cape Town were presented with good opportunities to go top of the table on Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon respectively. But, they both tripped and now have to redeem themselves this weekend if Orlando Pirates are not to walk away with the title.

Amakhosi were held by rookies Vasco Da Gama, their third draw in as many matches. The Urban Warriors fell during their trip to an impressive BIDVest Wits.

Chiefs are at home to Free State Stars at far-away Peter Mokaba Stadium while Ajax host the unpredictable Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Athlone Stadium. Both matches take place tomorrow.

Steve Komphela’s men beat Chiefs in the first round encounter played in the Free State, a match that saw Stars give very little away in midfield. The prospect of completing a league double over Amakhosi will be the driving force behind Ea Lla Koto whose previous trip to the Limpopo World Cup arena saw them scalp Mamelodi Sundowns.

Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic will have his captain Jimmy Tau back in the team after the rightback missed the match against rookies Vasco due to suspension.

Tlou Molekwane played at right back against Vasco, but could not get forward as much as Tau does. The skipper’s presence in the team will be vital.

Upfront, Knowledge Musona, who has not been at his best in the second half of the season so far, started on the bench against Vasco, but is likely to make a return to the first eleven.

The Zimbabwean has had a good run in the Polokwane arena, Musona having scored goals against Santos and BIDVest Wits there to help Chiefs to victories. How he would love to get another one if not more to get away from Lehlohonolo Majoro and Bradley Grobler who have cut his lead atop the scorers’ chart to one goal.

Stars though will certainly be looking to get another positive result at the World Cup arena following that 2-1 win over Sundowns.

Komphela’s team slipped up in their last match, conceding a late penalty that was converted by AmaZulu striker Lehlohonolo Majoro. But a clash against Chiefs almost always sees the opposition high on confidence and Stars won’t be any different.

Ajax will be very keen to pile on the misery for Aces and sentence the Mpumalanga side sure relegation while getting themselves back in the race for championship glory.

Wins for Chiefs and Ajax beckon.
