Growing pressures on the authority's finances

NOTTINGHAM City Council faces a 60 million in cuts next year, due to Government reductions in grants and growing pressures on services.

Pressures on the city council include:

The council claims it has lost 47 million in Government grants.

An increase in need for older people's services and children's services will cost 6.7 million more.

A one per cent increase in interest on new loans from the Public Works Loan Board, which lends councils money.

The council says this will cost them more than 2 million.

An incentive to reduce carbon pollution by giving council's cash back if they used less than expected is to be scrapped. The city estimates it will lose out on about 480,000 .

An increase in landfill tax will cost 160,000.

It expects to lose 500,000 on rental income.

A loss of 2.6 million from the Government towards travel concessions, which the council must make up.

The council says this is why next year's budget has been cut by 33.6 million.
