Newspaper reports claim that Tottenham Hotspur have agreed - in principle - to sign Steven Pienaar from Everton.
|||London - Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal - in principle - to sign Steven Pienaar from Everton, according to the Guardian newspaper, although they may wait until the summer before completing the transaction.
The South African midfielder is out of contract in the summer, and so would be available on a free transfer, but Tottenham could force a deal through now for a fee of around 2 million pounds.
Spurs beat off interest from Internazionale and Atletico Madrid to land the 28-year-old.
Everton would be reluctant sellers during this transfer window but the manager, David Moyes, has been told that he must generate funds for the three loan signings he feels he needs to make, with the priority a centre-forward. He also wants a right-sided midfielder and centre-back.
Pienaar had turned down a new contract offer of 60 000 pounds a week from Everton, and was hoping for something similar to the 75 000 pounds a week deal agreed by Mikel Arteta. - Sapa-dpa
