N1 pile-up leaves four dead

A collision involving two fully laden minibus taxis and a bakkie on the N1 near Warmbaths this afternoon left four dead and forty four people injured.

A collision involving two fully laden minibus taxis and a bakkie on the N1 near Warmbaths this afternoon left four dead and forty four people injured. Of the wounded ten had sustained critical injuries, twenty had sustained serious injuries and the remaining thirteen suffered minor to moderate injuries.

The circumstances leading up to the smash and the root cause remain unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.

Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the mangled remains on the vehicles near the roadway. They immediately set about treating the injured and summoned more resources to deal with the mass casualty incident.

The injured were stabilised at the scene before they were transported by ambulance to the Meulmed Hospital amongst other medical facilities for the care that they required.
