PCSOs funding is uncertain

FINANCIAL uncertainty has left funding for police community support officers hanging in the balance.

The Safer Cheshire East Partnership had proposed to pay 188,800 towards 16 PCSOs for three years from 2010.

But a report to a Cheshire East Council scrutiny committee said no funding commitment could be given at this stage due to uncertainty about future funding and the comprehensive spending review.

The report, which will be discussed on Thursday, January 6, said: "The partnership is currently assessing the impact of the comprehensive spending review and the impact this will have upon the area-based grant. This will obviously change the way services are administered and will affect this initiative and other existing commitments."

No decision will be made until further details are known about the future funding of the Safer Cheshire East Partnership and what cash will be available from the Home Office for PCSOs.
