Drivers will get advanced notice of any wrongdoing

HOW District Enforcement's system works:

Tickets are issued only if certain parking conditions have been breached. These conditions vary from site to site, but are displayed in prominent positions;

If you have received an 80 penalty ticket, you must pay within 28 days. The charge is reduced to 40 if you settle within 14 days. Drivers can pay through District Enforcement's secure website or payment hotline;

Motorists have a right of appeal. Each case is then reviewed individually and an adjudication is issued within 28 days. Successful appeals will result in the ticket being quashed;

If the charge is not paid, the details are passed to the company's litigation team, who will send a 'letter before action'. This gives the keeper of the car 14 days to settle the debt. If they still fail to pay, options include taking them to county court or passing the details on to a debt-recovery agent.
