Police searching for firearm after reports of a gunshot

POLICE are appealing for people who spent last night at a nightclub to come forward following a report of a gunshot being heard.

Officers were called to Arnold Road, Old Basford, at around 5am this morning after a member of the public contacted police.

Notts police cordoned off the road from Wallis Street to Cheltenham Street and drivers were diverted down Barlock Road.

No one has been reported injured and no firearm has been found.

A 22-year-old, who did not want to be named, had been staying at her mother's house on Wilton Street, just off Arnold Road.

She said the commotion started at a club opposite her street.

"We heard two gun shots at about 5 o'clock," she said. "A gang came running down and came to the bottom of the road and then half of the gang ran down here and then they came back and picked something up from under a car."

Police want to speak to anyone who was at the Umoja Klub, in Arnold Road, between 11pm last night and 5.30am this morning.

Anyone with any information about this incident should contact Notts Police on 0300 300 9999 and quote incident number 000196-24042011.

Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
