Burglar told to do extra hours after breach

BURGLAR Ciaran Lockett has been given an extra 20 hours unpaid work after breaching a youth custody suspended sentence order.

The 20-year-old, of Cotswold Avenue, Cross Heath, was sentenced on November 12 to 12 months in a young offenders' institution, suspended for two years, with 150 hours unpaid work after admitting a burglary at a house in Leaside Drive, Trent Vale, on June 15.

But Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court yesterday heard he failed to report on November 26 for a thinking skills programme and was late for an unpaid work session on January 23.

Lockett admitted the breach.

Nick Tatlow, representing Staffordshire Probation Service, said Lockett has since attended all appointments required of him and has now completed 56.5 hours unpaid work.

Heather Drew, mitigating, said Lockett wants to complete the order and added that he is actively looking for work.

Judge Granville Styler marked the breach by adding another 20 hours unpaid work.

"Turning up late and failing to attend the programme has cost you another 20 hours," he told Lockett.

"The court won't look on any further breaches favourably."
