Campaign meeting called off after man collapses

A PUBLIC meeting had to be abandoned last night after a member of the audience collapsed and stopped breathing.

Onlookers began administering CPR after he keeled over at Christ Church, Tunstall.

The man, thought to be in his 60s, was then taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire by ambulance. His condition was not known last night.

He had been attending a meeting at the church, called by Bankeyfield Residents' Association and other campaigners fighting against Stoke-on-Trent City Council's cuts.

They were due to discuss their ideas for saving Tunstall Pool and concerns over the council's proposed closure of Heathside House care home, in Goldenhill.

Organisers hope to reschedule the meeting.
