David v Goliath in FA Cup fixtures

The FA Cup is all about the little man facing up to the giant and giving him a bloody nose so expect upsets in the next round.

London – The FA Cup is all about the little man facing up to the giant and giving him a bloody nose, and the fifth-round draw has thrown up two games that could produce upsets that would echo through the generations.

The biggest mismatch comes on Saturday tea-time as Crawley Town of the Blue Square Premier League take on Manchester United.

It has not been the best build-up for the non-leaguers, with the week dominated by the fan on their official video released ahead of the fixture who taunted United over the 1958 Munich Air Disaster in which eight of their players died.

The video was immediately withdrawn from the club website, but there is a lingering sense of embarrassment, and a sense of anger on the part of the club that their big week has been overshadowed.

A 19 year old has been arrested for public order offences in connection with the gesture. “He's not welcome here now or ever again,” said Crawley chief executive Alan Williams.

“This should be an unbelievable week for us, playing the biggest club there is, and if anyone thinks Crawley would deliberately insult Manchester United over something so sensitive, that is what gets to me more than anything.”

The other minnows in action against top opposition at the weekend have also been in the news this week for non-footballing reasons.

Leyton Orient host Arsenal on Sunday, but are threatening legal action over the decision to let West Ham United take over the Olympic Stadium after the 2012 games.

Orient's Brisbane Road Ground is only around 2.3 kilometres from the Olympic site, and the fear is that a Premier League club moving so close will hit their fan-base and attendances.

For Arsenal, it is some change of opponent, having beaten Barcelona in the Champions League on Thursday.

Chelsea, whose Premier League hopes are fading fast, face Everton on Saturday, with doubts mounting as to whether Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba can ever play successfully together.

“Maybe in the next game we will use both,” manager Carlo Ancelotti said after leaving Drogba out of Monday's draw against Fulham. “We wanted to have more control of the pitch in this game.”

Fulham face Bolton Wanderers on Sunday, in the other all-Premier League clash.

Birmingham City meet Sheffield Wednesday, Stoke City play Brighton and Hove Albion and on Monday West Ham United take on Burnley.

There is one fourth-round tie still to be concluded, Manchester City meeting Notts County in a replay on Sunday. – Sapa-dpa
