Michael Buble helps Nottingham Panthers with cancer appeal

ONE lucky Michael Bubl fan could be the proud owner of this Nottingham Panthers jersey, signed by the star.

The ice hockey team have put the shirt on eBay in a bid to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The Canadian singer and ice hockey fan trained with the Panthers in early November, before his concert at the Trent FM arena.

Nottingham Panthers general manager Gary Moran said they had a great time.

"He was brilliant, just a regular, down-to-earth guy.

"We gave him two shirts when he trained with us – he kept the black one he played in, and he signed this white one and gave it back to us."

The online auction opened on Wednesday February 16 and bids had reached 715 by last night.

Mr Bubl has supported the auction, and even filmed a video message from outside the Sydney Opera House to encourage people to bid.

"We told him what we were doing and didn't really expect to hear anything back," said Mr Moran.

"But he took the time out to film this really nice video message and send it to us."

In the film, which is featured on the auction website, Mr Bubl said: "If one of you bids on this jersey and it helps a teenager, or a young person with cancer, that means a lot to me and I know it means a lot to them. Let's beat this thing together."

The auction ends on Saturday February 26 and the winning bidder will receive two tickets to the Panthers v Sheffield Steelers match on Sunday March 6.

They will receive the jersey in a presentation on the ice.

Before the Sheffield game, there is also a Panthers Legends v Nottingham Under-16s game when famous names from the club's past will be in action.

Supporters will be asked for to make donation to watch this game.

All of the proceeds from the auction and donations from the legends game are going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

It is just one of a number of events the Panthers are holding to raise money for the charity.

They will also have a raffle of hockey and celebrity memorabilia.

Panthers will also donate 100 for every goal they score at their game against Edinburgh on Friday, March 4.

Mr Moran said that the Teenage Cancer Trust is an important charity to the team.

"It's bad enough that these young people have to battle cancer, but they are often put on children's wards with little kids or with people who are a lot older.

"If we have these dedicated teenage wards, they can play computer games together, the girls can talk about boyfriends and make-up. It will help them to deal with their problems and recover better."
