Brownies and Guides mark 50th anniversary

GROUP CELEBRATION: Brownies and Guides came together to celebrate a milestone in their groups' histories.

The 11th Stoke Brownies and 11th Stoke Guides held an open night last night to mark their 50th anniversaries.

The groups, which meet at Temple Street Methodist Church, in Fenton, currently have 20 members.

Jan Salt, from Fenton, who is charge of the two groups, said: "The Brownies celebrated their 50th year in September and the Guides celebrate theirs next month, so we decided to combine the two with an open night."

Visitors to last night's event were shown a slideshow of key events from the groups.

Commemorative toggles, worn with neckerchiefs as part of the uniform, have also been produced to mark the anniversary.

Debbie McNaughton, who lives in Sunnycroft Avenue, Dresden, attended the event with her 11-year-old daughter, Heather.

She said: "It's a great chance for the kids to get out and try new things."

Pictured with the new 50th anniversary toggles are 13-year-old Rebekka Burrows and Ruth Dawson, aged 10.
