Ernst Middendorp is hoping to make his move to Golden Arrows a permanent one if he impresses in his coaching duties at the club in their last five Premiership matches.

The German-born trainer joined the mid-table Durban outfit on Monday after Serbian Zoran Filipovic was fired by Abafana

Bes'thende last Saturday, with Middendorp hired to take over from him the following day.

Middendorp had been fired by another KwaZulu-Natal side, Maritzburg United, a week before with the side struggling to achieve desired results.

“That decision will be made by the club but I have put through my intentions,” said Middendorp.

“Its not a done deal yet as far as next season is concerned, we are still in discussions with the club and am sure that we will know the way forward after the remaining five matches where we will do the final assessments in May.”

Middendorp though will have to wait a little longer before he could begin his tasks as he awaits for his work permit to be processed.

Arrows play SuperSport United in a league match at Chatsworth Stadium on April 6.

After that they face Ajax Cape Town, Santos, AmaZulu and Orlando Pirates.

“I'm not about talking, I believe in work,” he said.

“We play United in a few days' time and now I'm only interested in hearing about the paperwork being done.”

Oddly, while Middendorp's task is to ensure that the 11th placed outfit finish in a comfortable place in the standings, he was coach of struggling Maritzburg who are 14th placed, and in danger of being relegated at the end of the season.

“My aim is to help Arrows stay away from the bottom as much as possible,” Middendorp said.

“We need points in our last five games, and will be taking our planning match by match.” – Sapa
