The 2010 FIFA World Cup hosted by South Africa, was a moment of immense pride for the entire African continent. Between June 11 and July 11, 2010, football brought the whole world to share the dreams and aspirations of the South African people and those of the entire African continent. As part of the preparation for the tournament, South Africa constructed and refurbished stadia; modernized and constructed airports, railways and bus systems and generally renewed the urban landscape in many parts of the country. But above all else, an outstanding team of Africans went to work, to prove a point about the capacity of Africans to successfully host an international event of the magnitude of the World Cup.
