Printing firm pledges to take on apprentice

A PRINTING firm is the latest business to pledge itself to the Post's campaign to take on more apprentices.

Phase Print Ltd are looking to take on a new staff member who they will train up fully.

The candidate will learn about lithographic printing and the company hope to provide a full-time job at the end of the training.

Company owner Kevin Marks said: "We thought that we had got to the point where we would bring someone in and give a younger person a chance.

"We thought we had got the infrastructure in place to be able to employ an apprentice."

Mr Marks said the firm was just starting the recruitment process and hope to have the apprentice in post as soon as possible.

They are the latest of dozens of firms to pledge to take on an apprentice in support of the Nottingham Post's 100 in 100 campaign.

With the Notts and Derbyshire Chamber of Commerce, we set out to find 100 apprentice opportunities in 100 days. Having passed the target, we are now setting our sights on 150 apprentice posts in the remainder of the campaign.

Phase Print are being supported by the British Printing Industries Federation in taking on an apprentice.

The candidate will work and train at the firm, in Cordy Lane, Underwood, with the industry federation overseeing it, ensuring an NVQ qualification is achieved.

They will learn about the production of everything from small business cards and leaflets to much larger A-board signs and banners. "We want our apprentice to get involved in everything we do," said Mr Marks. "We have got 23 staff on board here and want them to integrate into the team.

"It is the first time we have ever taken on an apprentice, but if it proves successful then it is something we will look at doing again in the future.

"I certainly don't see any reason why it wouldn't be successful. One of the advantages is going to be that we can train them ourselves.

"We are looking ideally for someone who is of a school leaving age. In that way they won't come to us with bad habits."
